Scouts

Build confidence, resilience and a sense of adventure

SCOUTS IN TANWORTH ARE THE THIRD SECTION OF SCOUTING IN THE UK, TAKING BOYS AND GIRLS FROM THE AGE OF 10 TO 14.

If Beavers and Cubs are about challenge and adventure, Scouts takes it to the next level. Activities are more independent led by the Scouts themselves with leaders there to help where needed but not run the activity. More camps, more weekend activities, more outdoors, more hikes, more Scouting! The Scout section of 1st Tanworth in Arden Scouts started in January 2013, after being closed for 8 years.

The Scout section of 1st Tanworth in Arden Scouts started in January 2013, after being closed for 8 years. In out first year we have grown from 4 to 18 scouts with an equal mix of girls and boys. We meet every Wednesday during term time from 7pm till 9pm. Last year we camped 3 times, visited RAF Cosford, cycled 33 miles, hiked 28 miles, raised £1000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, climbed, shot, sailed, canal boated, won a swimming gala, completed a first aid course, ate hundreds of marshmallows, paraded twice and won the Redditch district orienteering trophy. This year we have we week long summer camp planned in Dorset, were entering a team in an orienteering challenge in peak district and well hike, cycle, sail, swim, climb the adventure has only just begun!

Tanworth Scouts are an active member of the West Warwickshire Scout district. This means we get to go on more camps and activities. We meet and compete against Scouts from other groups in competitions including swimming and hiking. We also get to use the trained leaders from other groups to lead activities our leaders cant like sailing canoeing, shooting, climbing and hill walking.

All are welcome. Scouting is open to boys and girls. You don’t have to have been a Squirrel, Beaver or Cub and you don’t have to be 10. We accept new Scouts of any age up to 14 (and will happily accept anyone older as a leader).

Scout leaders

All of our leaders are trained volunteers working to make Scouts the best it can be, but we don’t just need swashbuckling adventurers to lead our expeditions. We also need tidy-uppers and tea-makers and great listeners from all walks of life – for as much or as little time as they can spare.
